Choosing the right cup construction

Construction type (underwire vs wireless) and cup type are separate decisions. Cup type determines shape, silhouette and what is possible at each cup size. Pick this before you write the tech pack.

Entry level

Flat-press Foam Cup

A foam layer or layers flat-pressed onto a pre-cut cup panel. Lightly padded or push-up profile without visible seams on the outer fabric. The standard cup for everyday bralettes and basic underwire styles.

Best for: A–D cup, wireless bralettes, padded triangle, entry-price underwire

Tooling: No custom mould needed for standard foam shapes

Cost level: •

T-shirt & contour

Moulded (Seamless) Cup

Polyester foam heat-pressed in a 3D die to form the cup in one piece. Smooth, seam-free surface that disappears under T-shirts. Gives a smooth silhouette on the outer fabric.

Best for: A–D cup, T-shirt bras, contour/demi, premium smooth-silhouette lines

Tooling: Custom mould required for bespoke cup shape. We carry standard shapes

Cost level: ••

D+ & premium

Seamed (Cut-and-sew) Cup

Two to four fabric panels sewn together to build the cup shape. Allows precise control over projection, lift and volume that moulded construction cannot achieve at larger cup sizes. Visible seam lines can be a design feature in lace or premium styles.

Best for: D cup and above, lace-dominant designs, bridal/premium, bespoke fit

Tooling: No mould: pattern drafted and graded on our CAD system

Cost level: ••

Cup size Recommended construction Band range Typical application
A – C Flat-press foam or Moulded 28–44 Bralette, everyday basics, T-shirt bra
D – E (DD) Moulded or Seamed 30–44 Structured everyday, fashion lingerie

What to put on a bra tech pack

A bra needs more on the sheet than other lingerie, because the cup, the wire and the band each decide fit. These six cover most of what drives a second sample round. No tech pack yet? A reference bra or photo is enough to start. Not sure what else to prepare? Our guide on how to start a lingerie brand walks through fabric selection, MOQ, sampling and first-order budgets.

1. Cup construction

Seamed, moulded or unlined; cup sample or cup pattern if you have one; foam type and thickness.

2. Wire and channelling

Wired or wireless, wire shape or reference, and channelling material.

3. Band and back closure

Band elastic width, number of hooks and rows, and wing height.

4. Straps and hardware

Strap width and type, adjusters, rings and sliders, and metal finish.

5. Fabric and lining

Fibre content or swatch for outer, lining and power net, and Pantone or swatch for colour.

6. Fit and size chart

Fit model or base size, size range with cup progression, key measurements and the tolerance you accept.

How we keep bra bulk the same as your sample

In bras, drift between sample and bulk usually shows up as a band that loosens or a size run that does not feel consistent. Three steps address that.

1

Grading is done in-house

Patterns are graded on our own CAD system, so the size run is built from one base pattern instead of being passed between workshops.

2

Recovery is tested before we cut

Elastic recovery is wash-tested on the production fabric. The report goes to you before cutting starts. AQL inspection at the end checks visible defects.

3

Same batch as your sample

Band elastic comes from a designated supplier and the spec sheet ships with your goods. The elastic in your sample and in your bulk order comes from the same batch and dye lot.

Payment follows inspection: 30% deposit to start production, 70% balance after you approve inspection. How we run QC →

How a size run stays consistent from 30A to 44G

A bra size run fails in two ways: cups that change shape at larger grades, or bands that fit differently across the range. Both happen when sizes are drafted independently or graded by hand.

Our patterns are graded on an in-house CAD system from a single master pattern. Cup shapes follow strict grade rules (the same shape family, proportionally scaled), with no re-drafting per size. Band, wing and strap dimensions are all derived from the same rule set.

A 30A and a 44G from the same order follow the same construction logic. Any drift shows up on the pre-production measurement sheet, before we cut.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about bra manufacturing costs, materials and process.

How much does it cost to manufacture a bra?

FOB cost depends on three main factors: construction type, fabric and order quantity. A basic wireless bralette in microfibre at 200 pieces typically falls in the US$4–7 range. An underwire bra in stretch lace at the same quantity is usually US$7–12. Moulded cup bras with custom foam and premium trim are US$10–18+. These are indicative ranges. Your exact quote comes after spec review, because fabric composition and trim choice move the number more than any other variable.

What materials are used in bra manufacturing?

The main fabric types are microfibre (typically 80% nylon / 20% elastane), stretch lace, power mesh, cotton jersey, modal and spacer fabric for cups. The structural components are underwire (steel or nickel-free), channelling, foam cups (flat-press or moulded), band elastic, strap elastic, rings and sliders in nickel-free metal or nylon. Hardware for the back closure is typically a 3×3 or 4×4 hook-and-eye set. Label and care label material rounds out the BOM.

What bra cup suppliers and components do you work with?

We source cups from dedicated foam moulding suppliers, flat-press cups in single or double-layer foam, and fully moulded seamless cups. For OEM orders with a specific cup shape, we work from your cup sample or cup pattern.

How to find a bra manufacturer: what should I look for?

Four things to check before committing: (1) Does the factory grade patterns in-house or outsource that step? Outsourced grading adds handoffs and is the most common source of size-run inconsistency. (2) Can they show you a measurement spec sheet with actual values, not just labelling like S/M/L? (3) Will they sign an NDA before reviewing your design? (4) What is their standard QC protocol, inline, end-of-line, or AQL inspection with a report? A factory that cannot answer questions three and four clearly is usually not set up for export brand work.

Can I order different bra styles in the same production run?

Yes. Each style has its own 50-piece MOQ per colour. You can mix construction types, for example underwire and wireless in the same order, and we consolidate into one shipment. Sizes are always mixed freely within each style’s colour run.

What is your MOQ for bras?

50 pieces per style per colour, with sizes mixed freely across the run.

How long do samples and bulk production take?

ODM samples take 7 to 10 days and new OEM patterns 10 to 14 days. Bulk production takes 30 to 45 days from sample sign-off.

How do I know bulk will match my approved sample?

Patterns are graded in-house on our own CAD system. Elastic recovery is wash-tested on the production fabric and you receive the report before cutting. Band elastic comes from a designated supplier, the spec sheet ships with your goods, and sample and bulk use elastic from the same batch and dye lot.

How does payment work?

30% deposit to start production. The 70% balance is due after you approve inspection.

Do you sign NDAs?

Yes. We sign an NDA before spec review, and your design is not shown to other buyers.

Do you ship DDP or FOB?

Both. We quote FOB Shanghai or Ningbo, or DDP delivered to your door, whichever suits your import set-up.

What is the difference between a moulded cup and a seamed cup?

A moulded cup is made from polyester foam heat-pressed in a 3D die, producing a smooth, seam-free surface. The standard construction for T-shirt and contour bras where a clean silhouette under clothing matters. A seamed cup is built from two to four fabric panels sewn together, which allows precise control over cup projection, lift and volume. Seamed construction is more reliable for D cup and above, where scaling a moulded shape consistently becomes difficult, and it is also the natural choice for lace or premium lingerie where visible seam lines are part of the design. Choose moulded for smooth-silhouette A–D cup collections; choose seamed for D+ sizing, bespoke fit, or design-led lace styles.

Can you make bras in F and G cup sizes?

Yes. Our standard range is band 30–44, cup A–G. D cup and above are made with seamed or seamed-panel cups, which keeps shape and projection consistent at larger cup volumes. G cup patterns are drafted from a separate base rather than scaled from a mid-range grade. Include your full size run (band range and cup range) when you enquire and we will confirm grading feasibility and recommend the best cup construction before we start sampling.

What Bra Brands Say

“

We had tried three factories before this. Everyone could make the bralette but nobody could do our underwire D-cup in the reference fabric without distorting the cup. They sorted it on the second sample.

I sent a worn sample from a brand I liked and a mood board. Their team built a full tech pack from scratch, and the fit across 32B to 38E was consistent on the first bulk order.

We needed G cups without an MOQ penalty on the larger sizes. Fifty pieces per style, same unit price across the full 30–44 A–G run. No other factory we talked to would match that.

The elastic recovery report before bulk cutting is something I had never seen before. It caught a batch variance we would not have known about until returns started.
